The PSIME ED manages PhD students in Normandy who are preparing their thesis in the following disciplines: Physics, Materials, Solid State Chemistry, Earth Sciences, Energy, and Engineering Sciences.

The PSIME ED is specialized in various fields, in particular subatomic physics, materials science, optics, combustion, fluid mechanics, electrical engineering, crystallography, process engineering, and geo-environment.

PSIME doctoral students conduct their theses in one of the fifteen laboratories working in the aforementioned fields. These laboratories are located in different places across Normandy, primarily in Caen, Rouen, and Le Havre.

These laboratories are generally affiliated with several institutions, including the three Normandy universities (UCN, URN, ULHN), two public engineering schools (INSA and ENSICAEN), as well as the CNRS and the CEA.
